Tour B – Jeep Tour 29th Reco

From 90,00

Our “Jeep Tour” is a real opportunity to experience an unforgettable moment in Normandy. You will take the same routes and trails as the GI’s of the 29th Division in June / July 1944. Few landscapes have changed since then. You will discover the famous Normandy bocage which was one of the major natural obstacles contributing to the slow progression of the GI’s on the road to Saint-Lô. Being aboard these legendary vehicles is truly a special experience. It’s a real Normandy Jeep tour! You will have the privilege of taking a tour of one hour or more in a vintage vehicle as part of a private tour.

This 1943 Jeep cruised through Normandy and ended up on a farm near Caen until it relived the path taken by the soldiers of the “Blue and Gray”. It is in the colours of the 29th US Infantry Division and is precisely marked as a reconnaissance vehicle. You will not be able to escape the thrill of being on the trails between the hedges in the Saint-Lois sector. Photos and newsreels from the period will transport you on to the road to Freedom.

JEEP:

Robust and simple, the Willys Jeep has become the American Soldier’s (GI) best friend, second only to his rifle. General George C. Marshall, Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II and later United States Secretary of State, described the Jeep as “America’s greatest contribution to modern warfare.” . Scripps Howard WWII Reporter Ernie Pyle once said: “She did it all. She went everywhere. She was as loyal as a dog, as strong as a mule, and as agile as a goat. She constantly carried twice what she was designed to be and kept pushing forward. ”

The origin of the name of this mythical JEEP vehicle comes from the “transcription” of the initials G.P whose pronunciation is “djipi” (abbreviation of General Purpose), which means “all uses or good for everything! “. The transcription with a j instead of a g (geep) is explained by the influence of the little cartoon animal, Popeye’s companion, Eugene the Jeep.
