Tour A – Doc Lage Jeep Tour
Our “Jeep Tour” is a real opportunity to experience an unforgettable moment in Normandy. You will take the same routes and trails as the paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne in June 1944. Few landscapes have changed since that time. Being aboard these legendary vehicles is truly a special experience. It’s a real Normandy Jeep tour! You will have the privilege of taking a tour of one hour or more in a vintage vehicle as part of a private tour.
This 1944 Jeep is a replica of the one used by Captain Lage, Doctor of the 101st Airborne. Intended for the headquarters of the 82nd Airborne, this vehicle was recovered by the “Medics” of the 101st on D-Day and used for a few days before being picked up by the “MP” and returned to its intended recipients ….
You will take the same paths as Doc Lage and his men and relive the first days of the landing thanks, among other things, to a compliment of matching photos of the original Jeep.
JEEP:
Robust and simple, the Willys Jeep has become the American Soldier’s (GI) best friend, second only to his rifle. General George C. Marshall, Chief of Staff of the United States Army during World War II and later United States Secretary of State, described the Jeep as “America’s greatest contribution to modern warfare.” . Scripps Howard WWII Reporter Ernie Pyle once said: “She did it all. She went everywhere. She was as loyal as a dog, as strong as a mule, and as agile as a goat. She constantly carried twice what she was designed to be and kept pushing forward. ”
The origin of the name of this mythical JEEP vehicle comes from the “transcription” of the initials G.P whose pronunciation is “djipi” (abbreviation of General Purpose), which means “all uses or good for everything! “. The transcription with a j instead of a g (geep) is explained by the influence of the little cartoon animal, Popeye’s companion, Eugene the Jeep.
